  • TONUS: normal state of slight muscular tension
    • yogic breathing-SLOW and deep has greatest impact of the body
    • induces state of deep relaxation and reduced tonus
  • OXYGEN MYTH
    • fast or slow breathing does LITTLE to change the amounts of oxygen in the blood stream
    • levels go up or down in relation to MUSCULAR ACTIVITY (not breathing) , METABOLISM and HEART RATE
    • fast breathing lowers body stores of CD, with significantly increasing oxygen stores (Hyperventilation) creates respiratory alkalosis, heightening nerve & muscle excitability,
      • short circuits,,,tingling in hands, and spasms
      • robs brain of oxygen
    • Slow breathing causes a RISE in CD in the bloodstream, dilation of cerebral blood vessels-more oxygen to the brain
  • AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM-overrides possible
